PhytoBioForte Plant Enzyme formula

Lactose intolerance occurs if your body is deficient in the enzyme needed to digest dairy products, but many people do not realize how other food intolerances may manifest themselves. There may be some that have had severe problems such as GERD that may be helped by enzyme supplements, those individuals can be anyone alive from birth on, get your doctors advice if enzymes would be a suitable addition to what you have already been advised to do.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

Amylase starts the digestion of sugars - lactase, invertase and malt diastase help to complete the process, digesting the disaccharides into the simple sugars the body can use.

Antacids provide only temporary relief by neutralizing the acidity in the stomach, but will cause a much greater problem.

Most biological enzymes are proteins . They perform the chemical reactions in cells. Not all proteins are enzymes, but most enzymes are proteins (the exception is catalytic RNA). This mean that heat and chemicals will affect them, example: egg yolk protein solidifies as it denatures. Cooking, processing, irradiation, and chemicals change our food items and denature the natural enzymes in that food that help our digestion.

Food Intolerance, Allergy,

Many allergy victims suffer from from asthma as well.
For those with allergies National Association of Attorneys General October 29, 2001
“In 1996, the FDA asked the food industry to voluntarily label the sources of flavors if they contained known allergens,”
Peter Skinner, a scientist in the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

Acid reflux can continue to be a major problem. It may lead to frequent regurgitations, food avoidance, weight loss, frequent pneumonia, anemia etc.

hiatus hernia and GERD do not necessarily have an association

Gastro- Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) lifestyle and dietary changes may help some people with GERD

The British spelling of esophagus is oesophagus. Hence, GERD is GORD in many European countries.

Some symptoms of GERD are:
Heartburn (uncomfortable, rising, burning sensation behind the breastbone).
Regurgitation of gastric acid or sour contents into the mouth.
               Difficult and/or painful swallowing.
               Chest pain.

Sometimes GERD results in serious complications.
* Esophagitis can occur as a result of too much stomach acid in the esophagus.
* Esophagitis may cause esophageal bleeding or ulcers.
In addition, a narrowing or stricture of the esophagus may occur from chronic scarring.
* Some people develop a condition known as Barrett's esophagus, which is severe damage
to the skin-like lining of the esophagus.
Doctors believe this condition may be a precursor to esophageal cancer.

When chronic heartburn does not respond to treatment doctors have various options which can include.
* upper GI series
* Endoscopy, a test that can detect helicobacter pylori bacteria that can infect the
stomach and can cause inflammation and may cause of peptic ulcer(s)
* Endoscopy can also detect cancer at a very early stage.
* Bernstein test
* Esophageal manometric
* and if all else fails Fundoplication is a surgical procedure that increases pressure in the lower esophagus.

Some Food Components: the following links have not endorsed me nor I them.

Allows the investigation of the protein stucture of certain enzymes "Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center"
Starch and cellulose are two common carbohydrates.  Both are polymers (hence "polysaccharides")
The monomers of both starch and cellulose are the same: units of the sugar glucose.

Monosaccharide Browser
Monosaccharides: common types
glucose, "blood sugar", the immediate source of energy for cellular respiration
galactose, a sugar in milk (and yogurt), and
fructose, a sugar found in honey.

Disaccharides: "Disaccharides and Glycosidic Bonds"- common types
sucrose - common table sugar = glucose + fructose
lactose - major sugar in milk = glucose + galactose
maltose - product of starch digestion = glucose + glucose

Polysaccharides - 1 -
Starches
Starches are polymers of glucose. Two types are found:
     amylose and
     amylopectin

Cellulose
Like starch, cellulose is a polysaccharide with glucose as its monomer.

DEFINITIONS
immune adj. 3. Immunology. Of, relating to, or having resistance to infection by a specific pathogen.
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) immunoglobulin E a blood protein (antibody) causes individuals with allergies to react to an allergen and can trigger an adverse health condition.
Mast Cell

n. A cell found in connective tissue that contains numerous basophilic granules and releases substances such as heparin and histamine in response to injury or inflammation of bodily tissues.
[webmaster's note: mast cells that are in the nose, throat, lungs, skin, and gastrointestinal tract that are typical sites of allergic reactions.

allergy  n. pl. al·ler·gies     An abnormally high sensitivity to certain substances, such as pollens, foods, or microorganisms.  Common indications of allergy may include sneezing, itching, and skin rashes.
[Webmaster's note: - many allergies are to proteins, like in pollen - term is hypersensitivity.]
allergy diet n.  a diet designed to avoid the foods that you are allergic to
allergen n. A substance, such as pollen, that causes an allergy.
antibody  n.  pl. an·ti·bod·ies
A Y-shaped protein on the surface of B cells that is secreted into the blood or lymph in response to an antigenic stimulus, such as a bacterium, virus, parasite, or transplanted organ, and that neutralizes the antigen by binding specifically to it; an immunoglobulin.
allergic rhinitis n. rhinitis caused by an allergic reaction
[food] intolerance n. The quality or condition of being intolerant; lack of tolerance. Medicine. Extreme sensitivity or allergy to a drug, food, or other substance: lactose intolerance. [another term is food sensitivity]
anaphylaxis  n. 1. Hypersensitivity especially in animals to a substance, such as foreign protein or a drug,
that is caused by exposure to a foreign substance after a preliminary exposure.
2. See anaphylactic shock.
Metabolic (disorder) adj. Of, relating to, or resulting from metabolism.
[webmaster's note: this does not seem to relate to an allergy. Example, like when the body can not break down (metabolize) a food component like lactose. Ref. Intolerance]
Idiosyncratic (reaction)

n. pl. id·i·o·syn·cra·sies
1) A structural or behavioral characteristic peculiar to an individual or group.
2) A physiological or temperamental peculiarity.
3) An unusual individual reaction to food or a drug.
[webmaster's note: scientific definitions seem to be limited, seems to be a cause and effect relationship.

Hypersensitivity adj. Highly or excessively sensitive.
[webmaster's note: This term has also been used for allergies.]
Identification of food allergies allow a person to avoid foods that can cause illness and or the life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) that can constrict airways in the lungs, severely lower blood pressure, and cause suffocation by the swelling of the tongue or throat.
